Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 5 Activity 3

Activity 3: Choose your own
You have now made it to the end of Week 3 and have earned the right to choose your very own scientist, technologist, or inventor who you think has changed the world. There are no right or wrong choices for this activity, so find someone who interests you and tell us about them on your blog. It could be someone from your family, church or community or someone famous that you admire.
Here are some starting points in case you get stuck:

For this activity, choose one person and read all about them.
On your blog, provide us with:
  1. The name of the person
  2. A description of the work they do/have done
3. An explanation of how they/their work has had an impact on the lives of others.

1. A J Hackett

2. The next morning, AJ jumped from the iconic building. He was immediately arrested, and then released 5 minutes later.
because he was bungy jumping.

3. He imapacted on other peoples life by showing them a new thing (Bungy Jumping) which they loved and couldn't wait to leap off a tower with faith, and fear.

  1. Alan John "A.J." Hackett ONZM is a New Zealand entrepreneur who popularised the extreme sport of bungy jumping. He made a bungy jump from the Eiffel Tower in 1987 and founded the first commercial bungy site in 1988....but you still wont convince me to bungy jump - what about you Lukas? Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  2. Kia Ora Lukas,

What a great choice, AJ Hackett is a well known New Zealander who has positively impacted New Zealand tourism. Did read the whole ‘About Us’ section of the website where you got your information from? He did jump off the Eiffel Tower but he did more than that for work. Can you think of anything else you can add about A J Hackett’s work?

I can see that you have copied some of your information straight from a website, did you want to add the name of the website to your blog post to give them credit for their words? For example, you could write according to bungy.co.nz AJ Hackett advertised his bungy jumping company by….
Otherwise you can try and rewrite the words so it is in your own words instead. An example would be this sentence about Kelly Slater here:
He captured his first World Title in 1992 at the age of 20, and his last in 2011, at 39.
I could rewrite it to say: Kelly Slater has won many World Titles over his surfing career including his first one when he was 20 in 1992 and his last when he was 39 in 2011.

Comment below when you have changed your blog post to add more information and changed the wording so I can give you the full points for this activity!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani
